Is dating a black

16 Jun

The one black male friend that stopped by our home to say hello to me started the biggest fight I’d ever had with my mother. If my parents exploded because my platonic friendship with a black guy, I was scared to imagine their reaction if I actually dated one.

When my husband first wooed me my freshman year in college, I threw away his phone number.

I dated women form all diff backgrounds and cultures, but from my experiences in America, I don’t have the right complexion to be a well qualified bachelor.

I am a product of my lived experiences and let’s all be honest, having the brown colored skin especially the darker shade in America sucks!

My parents hated my husband the first time they met him.

They didn’t hate him because he was a theater major and out of work actor.

Skepticism towards black men/white women relationships is a longstanding and well-documented part of our cultural fabric in America. I'm not a "black man" who "dates white women." I'm a person.

I have my own unique experiences and some of them include having dated women who are white, but because interracial dating is such a historically tense and loaded subject, it's hardly ever looked at with any understanding or compassion for the people personally involved.

She says 'he is British, he was born here', but he is as black as they come (his parents are from Ghana). They hated him because he is black At the end of August, my husband and I will celebrate 12 years of marriage, but the years leading up to the so-called happiest day of my life were the most challenging years I’ve ever been through. Here’s the thing: I never ever planned marry a black man.I am tired of being sexualized or someone’s fantasy based from an arbitrary mindset. When living abroad I felt loved by other nations and cultures, but coming back home is coming back to hatred/ second rate treatment and lots of mistreatment.
